developing our intention
For many years we have been in conversations with each other about a dance for Wahzhazhe women. Finally, we decided it was time to make our dream a reality. We had heard stories of a women's drum, but we did not know enough about it to revive its meaning or likeness. So we have made our own way. We had a drum built by Osage/Oteo drum-maker Rock Pipestem. We talked with friends and family about the things they love about our people and our traditions. We had hard conversations about things that challenge each of us. We are developing a dance that we hope will bring our families together to celebrate women and girls in our community.
